About the Association
Birch Island is a community of 17 homes on Big Indian Pond in St. Albans, Maine — mostly second homes, many shared across generations of the same families. The Birch Island Association maintains the shared road and common concerns of the island, and keeps neighbors connected through a newsletter and this site.
Most of what the association does is practical: coordinating road maintenance, arranging water quality testing, collecting assessments to cover shared costs, and holding an annual meeting where decisions get made together.
Meetings & how decisions get made
The association meets annually on the Sunday following the Fourth of July — unless the Fourth falls on a Sunday, in which case the meeting is held on the Fourth itself. Additional meetings are called as needed. Meeting announcements are posted on the Happenings page and sent in the newsletter. Minutes and budgets are available to members in the members area.
Legal structure & assessments
